I've been in the business for 10 years and try and read at least a book or two a year on buying/managing rental property. This book isn't horrible, but it has the same pitfalls of most books for the small landlord; most of the information is obvious. Buy a good house in a good neighborhood... Gee thanks I would have never thought of that. This book is a little better than some, in that it does provide some detail, but just as soon as it starts to get interesting it stops. For example, it mentions buying in places that have good population and income growth. But then mentions nothing about how to do that, such as looking at census data or what have you. This holds true for pretty much every point he'd try and make. If you know nothing about real estate it might not be a bad read, as nothing he says is wrong, but I'd have to think there are better books out there.

Ace and Bub live on a forested island in a large body of water in an undetermined location. Various threats seem to constantly destroy the tranquillity of their preferred way of life, and the brothers are called upon to keep the peace using their wits, moxie, and more than a little bit of good luck. In book three, a boatload of moles with a population-control problem on their own island is trying to steal dirt from Beaver Island using a gargantuan vacuum cleaner. In book four, an enterprising fish attempts to clear one of the islands of its residents by pitting birds and bunnies against one another. As each group tries to drive the other away, Walter Mackerel the Fourth makes plans to open a resort for Squirrels. Each time, the brothers manage to restore order, but one always gets the impression that they'd much rather be taking it easy. This adds immeasurably to the charm of the series, fit to join the ranks of other popular kids' comics series like Jennifer L. Holm and Matthew Holm's "Babymouse" (Random) and Michael Townsend's "Kit Feeny" (Knopf). MAXWELL EATON III grew up in Vermont, where he spent his childhood climbing trees, damming streams, and spying on unsuspecting cows. He now creates children's books in Tucson, Arizona, where the trees can't be climbed, and the streams run dry, but the cows are still relatively unsuspecting. He is the author and illustrator of The Adventures of Max and Pinky series,�Two Dumb Ducks,�and the Flying Beaver Brothers series.

My 2nd grade son loves these books!

My son loves all 4 of these books - I just hope the author publishes more soon! They are cartoon or comic type books, my son has never been into this type of thing, but after reading one at the library chose to spend his own allowance on buying these books. He reads them over and over and picks up on the humor more and more.

My 7 year old son, who is not one who likes to sit still and read a book, loves these books. The graphic novel style keeps him interested. Though I've not read them myself to know the story line, he says they're his second favorite series (second only to Lego Ninjago).

Beautiful and Horrible....Well Worth the Read

I do not really have the words to describe how much I loved this book and how much it touched me. It is in my top three of the books that have most moved me. It is based off real life events and real people and that is what is so beautiful and horrible about this book. Beautiful because it shows how far people will go for their family and their people and it shows how strong the human spirit is despite every adversity that comes our way. It was horrible because this book showed just how despicable we can be as human beings to our fellow man. There were things that happened in the book that almost brought me to my knees just to read about it I can not imagine surviving such things if it were to really happen to me. The people in this book jump off the page and you keep thinking about this story long after you turn that last page. This is a book I urge everyone to read and to pass on to someone else to read because it is so very important that we not forget what was done to the Natives in our country. Middle Road Maker and Gives Grain and Sitting Bull and countless other people that lived deserve to be remembered not just because they were here before us but because if we forget then we will allow further atrocities like this to happen.

WOW! It's been a long time since I read a book that made FEEL as much as this one did!

This is a very good fictionalized account of historic events. While there are some liberties taken, all in all it's a very accurate portrayal. This took me longer than normal to read because at times I was overcome with emotion and had to have a break. The heartbreak and tragedy is overwhelming at times but, in spite of it there's always hope and love. There is an element of a love story but, that's not the big focus. There are same-sex relationships including the main characters but, again that's not the focus of the story, it's just a part of it. Another reviewer made a comment about modern idioms and I did notice one instance of that but, I didn't notice others. As I first started reading the cadence felt unusual but, as I read I got comfortable with it. I actually think it leant to the feeling that I was listening to a narrative tale. I can't recommend this book enough but, I also caution that it's not a light read. It doesn't gloss over the atrocities that occurred.

Sloooooow.

This book starts out great. Really great.

But I am not sure whether this was originally a serialized novel or whether she just wrote it that way, but it reads as though it's trying to add length with every chapter. It is very, very long and I kind of got tired of waiting for it to get to a point of some sort.

So I made it about halfway, and I might go back and try again, but I'm not sure.

I also wished she'd had someone edit it for language use. Considering that these are supposed to be Indians during the American westward migration, there's an awful lot of 21st century idiomatic usage here. It affects the mood of the book, and breaks the reader out of the historical mindset.
