About the Author
BOBBI CONNER is known for creating high-quality child development and parenting resources--radio programs, podcasts, and books. For twenty-four years Conner was the host of the award-winning Parent's Journal nationwide public radio series, broadcast in the US on more than 150 NPR stations and worldwide on the American Forces Radio Network. Now Conner's weekly parenting podcasts are featured online at www.parentsjournal.com. She is the author of Unplugged Play (Workman Publishing, 2007). Conner is a popular parent education speaker, presenting workshops to parents, educators, and professionals across the United States on topics related to childhood creativity, unplugged playtime, and practical parenting. She has a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree and is the mother of three children who were raised with a hefty dose of creativity.

A Joyful and Practical Book To Help Encourage Creative Play

Anyone who works with children in any capacity, especially parents and teachers, should get a hold of this epic resource.
Not only is this aptly named "Giant" book stuffed to the brim with great ideas of creative play and projects for every age, but the organization of the material allows for easy cross-referencing. You can look up ideas for toddlers, but if you get into the wonderful section on how to put together a weekly or monthly Craft Activity Night, for example, it comes with a long list of potentially perfect activities from all over the book and a range of ages. Specific fresh ideas for how to actually do a specific kind of project are always bundled with extra materials: so, if Bobbi Conner is suggesting you sing silly songs with your kids, you can be sure she will give you a thorough and well-rounded list of songs fitting that description.
Also, this book does a wonderful job in giving adults the background reasoning on why creative play isn't just a frill but a necessity for young children. In this way, the book reminds me of Jim Trelease's beloved "Read-a-Loud Handbook." You will be more inspired and passionate about trying some of these fun ideas because it will be so abundantly clear that you're building lifelong skills at the same time.
As someone who writes a lot about family traditions, I also applaud the way in which Bobbi Conner provides prompts for shaping creative adventures into wonderful and anticipated rituals. The best creative ideas here work beautifully as daily or weekly family times.

Great Resource for Parents, Teachers & Camp Counselors

I gave this book to the elementary schools my grands attend. The teachers were very appreciative for such great ideas as everyone winds down the school year. I would also recommend this book to camp counselors, playground supervisors, and to anyone else who wants fun activities for ages 6-12.

This wonderful book has so many ideas that there is absolutely no reason to ever be bored again as a kid. So, the next time your child says, "I'm bored" ask him/her to pick out a page and then go do it. Fabulous book. One I wish I'd owned when my own kids were young, however, am pleased I have it for when grandchildren come visiting.
